Singaporeans who earn a higher income should pay a higher percentage of tax as they have a higher buffer of excess income after paying for their basic needs.
The taxes collected from the wealthier can be used for:
1. Government spending (e.g. military, education, public housing)
2. Redistributing wealth to the needy (e.g. health care subsidies, subsidised rental)
3. Reserves for the future.
